to the one we love to hate...

in a few days, the longest running electoral campaign will come to a close.

if all goes as wished, the palin jokes will come to an end.

i'm guessing, here's the last of the bunch.  here's a prank call by 2 radio dj's from montreal posing as nicolas sarkozy in a silly accent and even sillier questions.  i love it!!!

oh no, ohio

got this from carlos celdran who got this from bryanboy.

it's scary how places as hateful and fearful like these still exist -- and right in the middle of america!

and it's funny how this was a clipping from al jazeera.  we don't see anything near this on cnn or bbc!

and the mccain/palin campaign fuels these theocratic, racist, totally absurd, fearful, hateful, narrow minds.

so disturbing...

something just needs to be said about the debate...

sarah palin may have done "better than expected" (which really says more about the standards to which she is being measured), but that doesn't mean she actually did well....

here's an excerpt i got from the huffingtonpost ....

"Wading into the debate over the future of the war in Afghanistan, Alaska Governor Sarah Palin tried for a moment to sound as if she knew what she was talking about. This is what we got:

MODERATOR: Governor?
PALIN: Well, first, McClellan did not say definitively the surge principles would not work in Afghanistan. Certainly, accounting for different conditions in that different country and conditions are certainly different. We have NATO allies helping us for one and even the geographic differences are huge but the counterinsurgency principles could work in Afghanistan. McClellan didn't say anything opposite of that. The counterinsurgency strategy going into Afghanistan, clearing, holding, rebuilding, the civil society and the infrastructure can work in Afghanistan. And those leaders who are over there, who have also been advising George Bush on this have not said anything different but that.

Setting aside for a minute the fact that the substance of Palin's babbling, incoherent response was wrong, she apparently got her centuries and wars crossed.

For those who don't know, this is General McClellan:

And this is General McKiernan, the officer to whom I presume Palin was actually referring:

Now, in most cases, this type of oversight on the part of a politician could be dismissed--maybe even attributed to nerves. But when Afghanistan is exploding and on the verge of failure, details matter. Facts matter. Being familiar with the situation matters--a lot. The troops depend on it.

If you're going to accuse your opponent of waving the "white flag of surrender" in front of the entire country, then you had better damn well be able to back it up with foreign policy expertise. And, as expected, Palin fell far short of that mark. Instead, we were treated to more of the same clueless carelessness that has marked the last eight years of the Bush administration.

This is a woman who can accuse her opponents of cowardice, but at the same time, can't be bothered to learn the name of America's commander in Afghanistan. It's remarkably sad, and it's an insult to the troops serving there. Likewise, it denotes that same aloofness--that all-too-familiar lack of curiosity and concern for what's actually occurring on the ground in both theaters. And for those of us who've served overseas under the leadership of George W. Bush, it's a feeling we know well."

tsk tsk tsk.

i love this political blog! its admittedly very liberal (only), but i do love reading the entries. even the ultimate rock chick (who i HEART), Sheryl Crow, posted quite a witty entry there about palin. read it here!!!

case closed.

politix

just watched palin's first public speech as a vp nominee.

she was actually pretty good and didn't have that annoying factor that i think both hillary and gma seem to have...

...not yet at least...

but, in true republican fashion, she was very partisan and pro-war and almost paranoid (with lines like "the world is a dangerous place...")

when will they realize that narrow-mindedness feeds terrorism feeds narrow-mindedness feeds terrorism feeds narrow-mindedness feeds...

the plight against terrorism seemed hopeless, until i read these 2 books which gave light to the whole issue:

a book benazir had finished the day she died.  her main thesis is this (in simple terms):

that if moslem nations become democratic, peace will thrive because democratic nations don't wage war on each other.

and that islam and democracy are actually very much on the same page, contrary to what many (including the extremists) think.

one of the most inspiring books i've EVER read.  it's about an extraordinary guy who, by some twist of fate, devoted his life to build schools for girls in the outskirts of conservative pakistan.

the continuing success of his work inadvertently takes on terrorist-breeding grounds head on.

the guy, greg mortenson, is currently nominated for the nobel peace prize :)

yun lang.
