green greetings + woolly wonkas + renting rants

1.
sending you a paperless greeting from messy bessy :)

2.
+ lemme share with you my recent find: woollypockets.

american-born breathable modular planters that are made from 100% recycled materials...

so fun that you can build gardens on floors, or even walls!

i actually even emailed them to ask if we can replicate the program here...

but they said that they only go as far as exporting... so much for small carbon footprints, eh?

read more about woolly here.

i guess apartment living makes me miss the greenery...

so, shall we just make our own? ;)

3.
+ lemme share with you our latest green habit: renting movies via itunes.

think about it:

zero waste,

zero piracy,

in the comfort of your own home.

perfect!

ain't no mountain high enough

one of 3 filipinas to climb mount everest...

the 3 were the first women to ever traverse the mountain... (traverse = climb from south and descend to north... as opposed to climb and descend on same side)

who better to tell us to dream big and go for it, no matter what.

against all odds -- the lack of funding and support; the extreme conditions -- they still managed to do it.

it's been 3 years already but it's still as big a story as it was then...

so here she is, leading our "thumbs up" -- a big 'yes' to women, to the Philippines, and to climbing our highest mountains.

woohoow!

reaching up

yahoowee!!!

we're getting a grant for my school h.ou.s.e. project!!!

(This is our school h.ou.s.e. logo...)

it takes inspiration from those ivy league coat of arms...

and twinpophub's "mahirap abutin pero kaya" art works...

maybe securing a high school (and grade school) diploma for each of the messy bessititas isn't that much of a feat after all :)

I think Susan was right... and this grant is Saturn's gift...

She said that:

Saturn has been touring your tenth house of career for two years, and ever since, your abilities, good judgment, practicality, resourcefulness, and determination to stay the course have been tested.

AND...

Saturn always leaves a gift by the door when your tour of duty is over.

So maybe this is Saturn's gift... or simply God's gift of course :)

So first things first... which chair to choose for our permanent classroom? Both are from Uratex, makers of the infamous monobloc chairs.

hours to give

hiya sis.

i've been spending time in white space, which is beside our office.

it's great to be there in the morning when there's not too many volunteers and tons of work to do...

here's a human chain passing down some deliveries... this happens all the time.

here are the messy bessies repacking rice...

our lunch?  cibo pasta.  what a treat!

here's another treat -- chickout the bathroom. so nice!

and to my surprise, look at the soap and sanitizer!  repacked messy bessy items!  so coool!

we'll head back tomorrow...

we'll keep on donating work hours until the operation is over..

i haven't heard from one of our staff though :(  please pray for him...

anything's possible!

thanks to uber generous tana, yesterday was our first day of english lessons.

here we are slowly going through the first chapter of a book...

this is the middle-school book we're reading... a true rags-to-riches story about a chinese (boy) ballet dancer...

a story they all relate seem to relate to... since they're all dancers (some hiphop, some at men's clubs)... and of course all struggling like the character.
(one of the girls even cried during the reading, because she could relate to a character who was maltreated)
i'm so happy they were quite engrossed and wanting to finish the book in the future.

(oh, by the way, did you notice their shirts?  woohoo!)

anyway, teaching them english... and even more, getting them grade school and high school diplomas is an uphill climb... but i'm taking it.
maybe that's why i'm enjoying the new show recommended by twinpopbro...

it's about musical high school outcasts... a musical dramedy with very tina fay-esque humor.

anyway, here's to believing in those who many gave up on.   naks.
