kitchen heroes

lemme share with you our heroes (ever since lita left).

these 2 are our fave additions to any (yummy?) dish i come up with.

for the mister, it's this: bonifacio's revenge.

cute name dontchatink?

it's the sooper spicy sauce of cafe med.

queen of the kitchen

just wanted to share how i fared on my first night as queen of the kitchen...

here's my dinner: garlicky spinach (although i should have called it salty spinach -- hwe hwe -- watch out i might be bloated tomorrow).

for the mister, it's spicy grilled salmon kebabs... he liked it!

i even improvised and added his fave japanese chili oil to the rub.

not bad at all... good things always come out of bad ones, i guess.

employer of the year

i think YOU should be voted employer of the year!!! they really don't know what they have til its gone....

in fact, it was really you who inspired me to try and be a better employer too. so here's a little thanks for that "i hope you realize what kind of impact you are making" speech, among other things. haha!

here are some of my bikers at our buffet breakfast last weekend :) have another get-together for earth day in april :)

bye bye lita

sad times, indeed.

closing yet another chapter in our happy home life -- this time, it's with our uber-fantastic-but-apparently-not-uber-honest cook & baker.

yesterday was the fateful day we caught her taking home food that wasn't hers.

i'm certain this wasn't the first time.

perhaps she doesn't realize what we have tried so hard to give her over the last 7 years:

1. earning way above minimum wage, a decent amount to make positive changes in her life.

2. means and opportunity to go home daily, so that she doesn't have to spend nights away from her baby just to make us that occasional midnight snack while we watch dvd.

3. weekends at home, so that she experiences what everyone (we believe) should -- a five day work-week that allows two days of cherished family time.

4. a working environment that doesn't use fear and distrust to get things done.

5. etc., etc., etc.

and as fate would have it, under the unlikeliest of circumstances, i did see what i had hoped not to see -- that for so long she's been taking what's not hers, as if saying that what we work so hard to give is simply not enough.

i wonder what had brought me to all-of-a-sudden see the light?

perhaps it was that little black guardian (now deemed protector) that we received on that same day.

perhaps it's the effects of my ongoing novena to my favorite saint (who was believed to be a heretic because of her very non-churchy-but-spiritual writings).

or maybe because we have another guardian who was celebrating his 3rd birthday in heaven on that same day.

whatever and whoever was the reason behind this, we remain grateful (though broken hearted).

(and secretly, i'm excited to start anew... learn recipes, cook healthy meals, and be that martha-stewart wife i've always dreamed to be)

united state of pop 2009

something to remember the past year in pop culture by....

i like it :) i want to download the music, put it on my shuffle so i can listen to it while i'm running! (i mean, IF i run- hehe).

berry cute

i know this show was about to end, and i couldn't let it pass without showing it to you.

it's by a very talented graphic artist/illustrator (i think) named luis lorenzana. it took him 3 years to finish this particular piece.

what i really really like are his drawings (he had more in the booklet).

this is the one i REALLY liked. (sold na though). i know the frame does a lot for it, but i'm loving the drawing, and the fact that the canvas was treated to look aged.

these 2 were the only ones not sold.

now i'm kinda tempted to get them since it's right up my campy/kitschy aesthetic.

but i think i like them only because i REALLY like his drawings.

note: seeds of strawberries are hearts :)
