china: portrait of a country

moving on (hehe).... was too lazy to get out of the house today... had a late night and the afternoon rain kept me in my oh-so-cozy room.... and i stumbled upon this....

"China: A Portrait of a Country" - China, as seen through the eyes of 88 Chinese photographers with photos since 1949. It was edited by Pullitzer prize winning photojournalist Liu Heung Shing....

here are some of his own photos from the 70's

students, without electricity in their homes, flock to Tiananmen Square to study under its lights. Liu Heung Shing said the light was so bad here, that he had to lie on the ground and leave his shutter open for 20 seconds to get this shot.

1989, on the Jianguomenwai bridge, the day after tanks rolled into Tiananmen Square to quell the student protests....

inspiring photos, dontchatink?
