reel vignettes

i know you've been doing really *inspired* set designs...

so i thought you'd really like this recent event of elle decor in LA...

where interior designers + set designers created vignettes inspired by movies/TV shows.

some were pretty straightforward like this...

the others will take a lot more guessing...

can you guess what these were based on?

(these were movies...)

(these are tv shows...)

check out the whole feature here.

tres cool !

waste no more

i was in the grocery and chanced upon this:

it's called "starchware"

essentially disposable tableware made from corn and yam... yup, these:

so yes, they're biodegradable, non-toxic, etc... they won't leak out chemicals even with heat.

i shall call them on monday and see if i can use this for my biba noodles.

cool eh?

love :)

"general opinion is starting to make out that we live in a world of hatred and greed. but i don't see that. seems to me that love is everywhere. often its not particularly dignified or newsworthy, but its always there..... if you look for it, i've got a sneaky feeling you will find that love actually IS all around."

i took those photos on the way to a shoot location, and it reminded me of that opening line in the movie, love actually :)

his & hers design

over a span of a few months, i've unknowingly been kicked out of my home office...

the hub is now slowly building his new small home theater...

and so i'm moving next door...

...inspired by a recent purchase:

"the selby", a book based on the successful website,

essentially a site/book that features homes of all these super cool famous and not-so-famous people in a really cool way...

here's a look inside:

from which i took inspiration from for our new altar in my new room:

the rest of the room, though, needs more help.

help!

back to the selby, i think you'll really like it.

first ladies exhibit

speaking of politics and exhibits, i forgot to show you what twinpopyale and i worked on while you were gone - the first ladies' exhibit at fort santiago :) it showed the photos, dresses of all our first ladies from Aguinaldo all the way to Estrada.

here are the photos of Aguinald and Laurel in black wooden frames against a striped fabric wall :)

here are Roxas's photos and her terno

Quirino's photo wall

among my favorite dresses were Magsaysay's Ramon Valera dresses. this one had a very interesting detail...

i loved Garcia's dresses with bustles, i thought they were the most regal-looking

this is the terno i would probably wear today :) i love the violet appliqued flowers on Macapagal's dress!

of course, there wouldn't be a first ladies' exhibit without Imelda's dresses - though we only included 2 here, same number as everyone else ;) here's here multicolored weave terno and the famous blue peacock terno by Joe Salazar.

fun project :)

same old bananas

in light of the same ol' same ol' who won our senatorial race... (okay... photo not too accurate...)

i'd like to juxtapose our situation with the most recent installation at silverlens.

yes, they seem like statesmen perhaps from the lower house?

complete with barongs and masks...

and in the middle of it all are bananas...

and their "holy" leader... hmmmm.......

well, as the artist aptly called it...

same ol', same ol'.

ever the optimist.

this is the high school where i casted my vote.

(notice the building looming above???)

lines were long, and it was very hot (as everyone had said).

the line in the classroom before the actual classroom where we vote...

but i was more than happy to endure -- with cold water and this book in tow...

between the long wait, the nerves (of filling up the lone ballot correctly), and the thrill of voting for a president for the first time, it was quite an emotional experience for me,

especially as i got my indelible ink on my finger (gross photo below).

needless to say i'm BEYOND thrilled that our elections went relatively smoothly, and we actually have RESULTS so early on!!!

kudos to dick who really pushed for automated elections.

and even if pretty much none of my candidates will make it...

and the last names on the roster board are as old and cliche and tiresome as can be,

i'm as hopeful as ever.

nakaligo ka na ba sa dagat ng basura?

there was a sudden rainpour on my way to intramuros yesterday afternoon (after a looong intense hot summer day). it came down strong and within minutes, the streets were suddenly flooded - some parts mid-calf or even knee deep! i managed to take this photo along espana road through my car window....

halfway around the world...

while you're enjoying your strawberries, i can't have enough of blueberries over here...

that and Lady M's famous mille crepe... *die*

here's what's left of what the girls and i've been attacking...

and while i'm at it, had an incredible cuban meal in celeb-fave cafe habana...

... where i had, among others, their famous and mega yummy corn (and yes of course, i thought of you ;) )

so between date nights with the hub (photo below was in an austro-german dig we checked out)...

...and binge fests with the girls (here's some of what cia-grad crix whipped up when we were in NJ)...

i'm having a super time, and so is my tummy :)

(thanks to kiki&lala for the photos... more on our NJ weekend here.)

see ya soonest.
