been going around manila a bit more often than usual lately, preparing for a short film i'm working on, set in Binondo, 1930's-1950's.... and here are some random shots i took while walking around...
first stop was the national museum, where i took a peek at the spoliarium after many many years... here's the chandelier outside the main hall, infused with artwork by impy pilapil (i'm assuming)...
windows on the basement of the National Museum
monogramed door handles
and then on to lunch at binondo's "sincerity" restaurant, a pretty famous hole in the wall... took a snapshot of their kitschy signage, so we can get the numbers as well (they deliver!)
i love the little altar in the resto where buddha sits beside the sto. nino and the waving cat....
walked down the next street (formerly Gandara) where a new mall now stands, and there's a cute yogurt place on the ground floor... cheap (P50 for a cup, +P20 for toppings) and actually good! (love the logo!)
next stop, "el hogar", that famous corner building that has almost stayed untouched since the wartime. its been used as sets in so many movies and tv shows. you could actually build sets in some of its empty floors....
its famous railings and staircase....
big windows and grills!
i love this room
some art deco influences...
love the kitschy colors of this abandoned office - red, mint green and yellow
and lastly, "tofu"... hihihi... who will probably be in the film, too :)
