hey sis! CHICKITOUT!!!
my friend sent me a link about Socotra Island... its an isolated island in the Indian Ocean, off of Yemen known as the "Galapagos of the Indian Ocean" because its home to around 700 endemic flaura and fauna, a third of which are found nowhere else on earth...
its the strangest thing i've ever seen. it almost looks like an underwater world above ground- I WANT TO GO THERE! here are some photos from the site...
this is called the dragon's blood tree because of its red sap....
and this is the desert rose
this doesn't even need soil to grow, it just lodges itself into rocks and sinks its roots straight into them...
the island was just inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list last July 2008. that list would make a great to-do list don't you think? ;) have we even been to the UNESCO sites in the Philippines?
1. Tubbataha Reef (check!)
2. Cordillera Rice Terraces (hmm.. why have i not been there?!)
3. Vigan (check!)
4. Puerto Princessa Underground River (i missed this when i was in Palawan)
5. San Agustin Church, Manila (of course)
6. La Nuestra Senora de la Asuncion Church, Ilocos Sur
7. Paoay Church (check!)
8. Santo Tomas de Villanueva Church, Iloilo
the complete UNESCO World Heritage list is here.
