art deco row

wow! bembol rockers rock!!

speaking of an era past, call me weird but i love that row of low-rise buildings along buendia.

it starts from the yupangco (yamaha) building, all the way to edsa.

i love the repetitive lines, the geometric shapes and the overall retro look of the facades.

reminds me of those funky wallpapers in the 70s that seem to have made a come back.

it's just too bad that a lot of the tenants don't take care of the building, like this one dotted with aircon vents.

or worse, some renovate and don't keep up the integrity of the design.

of course, leave it to SM to be part of it...  chickout what BDO did to a building.  so yucky. almost like it's eating up the old beautiful building.

the most recent development of SM are 2 ginormous white shoe-box-ala-megamall type buildings on this row -- both for their call centers.

just wish people here had more architectural sense -- they could have made this row develop into an uber cool lindy locsin-inspired display.

yun lang.

I love Makati's brutalist architectural history. I tried doing a tour about these buildings for Ayala a couple years ago. Legaspi is a bit of a treasure trove of these sculptural cement lovelies.

Sayang that they too are being all renovated.

Love the blog! You are on my bookmarks.

and it's not really art deco I think. I think this kind of architecture is called "brutalist". Look up Louis Khan for more of this fab style..

hi carlos :)

welcome, welcome! thanks for "chicking us out".

yes you're probably right about "brutalist". i'll look it up.

yes i know louis khan -- we have an excellent documentary about him -- in case you wanna borrow. he led a very interesting (and sad) life. died alone in the subway!
