brian uhing part2

i finally met brian uhing.

he's the one i spoke about in this post.

he's in manila for a few weeks (from sagada).

why i really like him:

1. he's brilliant! this guy can genuinely dissect his art technically and figuratively. incredible.

2. it takes him years to finish a whole show.

3. he's out of touch with the manila art scene. and with manila period.

4. he's cutely anti-machismo. he didn't want his son to have a super masculine name -- so he named him after a subject of one of khalil gibran's poems.

5. he's brilliant! he's been living in sagada for 2 years now, and can discuss the place's history, culture and current social issues with humor and intellect (naks)

6. he's brilliant!

(wanted to take his photo but was too hiya)

He's one of my favorite Filipino artist! Are there any other impressions that you got after meeting him? (I know I'll never meet him in person that's why I'm SUPER interested in what you though about him). More! More! More! hehe

Yes I will definitely post more about him! He's such an interesting guy!

To add to his "anti-machismo"ism, he actually even makes his son take ballet just because he enjoys it -- think Billy Elliot.

He's getting more in demand now -- some of his (pre-owned) works came out in a recent show in Silverlens-- and he has 3 shows scheduled for the year -- one with puppets and 2 with paintings. Let's see if all shows push through because you'll never know with this guy.

Another cool thing with this guy is that he doesn't follow anyone's schedule but his own. So he won't "force" himself to finish an artwork if he doesn't feel it's finished yet.

That's all for now :)

Wow I hope his shows push through! That's something to look forward to that's for sure! Have you ever considered writing an article about him for a publication? I really think you should alot of people should get to know him (he's so amazing) and I know you'd do a great job =)
